Keebler (the baby elf) update

Keebler is the name of our 7 day old orphan. We named him Keebler because the way his ears are he looks like a little elf. He is eating well and growing a little every day. He is still tiny and wants to run everywhere even though his eyes are still closed. He’s going to be a really nice cat! He sure has spunk and a big personality all ready. He will be available in the end of May if you know anyone who is interested. We will keep you updated on his growth.

New Baby in the Nursery

Yesterday we picked up a 2 day old kitten from the vet. Not sure of the story of this little one, only knew that if we didn’t take him/her that it would die. Here is a picture of the first feeding. She/he is now under the heat lamp and getting fed every 2 hours. He/She is pure white with 2 black spots on the top of the head! She still has his/her umbilical cord!

Rupert’s Story

Stewie and his brother Rupert was spotted by several families at the Marriott the week of 3/20. They were so friendly and nice that everyone was concerned about his well being. Both had beautiful copper eyes and a beautiful orange tiger coat of hair.

We got a call this week from a fellow cat rescue person in NJ who had spotted and caught Rupert. Rupert made a friend with a beautiful little girl named Devon who took good care of him until we could pick him up.
We were fortunate to find him a home with a family in Aruba who has a little girl the same age of Devon be his new mommy!

Stewie is on his way

Stewie and his brother Rupert was spotted by several families at the Marriott the week of 3/20. They were so friendly and nice that everyone was concerned about his well being. Both had beautiful copper eyes and a beautiful orange tiger coat of hair.

A wonderful woman from the Oklahoma Humane Society had also found a black cat there and named him “Aruba’. She brought him back with her on 3/27. She was concerned for Stewie and Rupert and said if we could catch them she would pick them up if we could get them to the US and take them to her wonderful organization.

We got a call and picked him up on 3/28. We found wonderful American student on the island to foster him for us. She left on Friday with Stewie for DC. He will be staying there for a ‘layover’ and will be flown to Oklahoma in the very near future. We are hoping that he will have a bright future with a loving family.

Best of Luck Stewie! You are a great cat!

Annie’s Story

Annie was flown by a volunteer to the Baltimore area on April 4th. She really enjoyed her ride and loved
to play with her toys in her carrier and watch the people pass by.
Here is Sherry (Annie’s new mom) story:
We have had two male cats at home. Dish is turning nine next month and was a barn kitten rescue from a friend who was dying. Pixie was a year old in January and was a rescue thru AKR. Dish is too fat to move and although we originally hoped that pixie would get dish motivated but it never happened. Dish is a beautiful blob that doesn’t like to expend energy. I had been talking about bringing a female cat into the house, preferably a small kitten to keep Pixie company. Liz at AKR contacted me about a kitten named Murray. Murray is hubby’s name but we didn’t want a male although he was really cute. However, a week or so later, this adorable male kitten had a sex change. Murray was now classified a female (the anatomy told the tale, lol) and needed a home and a new name. SHE is now Annie. She is so cute. Pixie and Annie play until they both fall over. Dish even babysits her when pixie is sleeping. We are truly one big happy family now.

MJ finds a home

MJ (short for Madame Jeanette) flew to the US on 4/8. She turned up at a B&B on the island and one of the guests fell in love with her and arranged for her to live with her in the US. We were able to help MJ by providing a carrier and helping them through the process of bringing him home to the US. We hear that she was good as gold on the flight and is very happy in her new home!

Stewie Needs a home

This handsome fellow needs a home! Stewie was found by some families at the Marriott. He was so friendly and nice that everyone was concerned about his well being. We put the call out to all the cat lovers there and got a call that Stewie had been spotted. The family that called us had said that he should be called Stewie if a boy. He has beautiful copper eyes and a beautiful coat of hair. He really wants is a nice home that will love him. He loves to cuddle and since he had a sibling at the Marriott (that we can not locate) we are sure he will get along with other cats. He is about 3 -4 months old and has had his first set of shots. We might have a flight into DC or the Phila/NJ area if you are willing to pick him up at the airport. Please help Stewie to get the home he deserves! Please contact us at info@arubakitten.org if you are interested or can help!.

Blackie (now Bella) rescued from the Marriott

Blackie gets a great home!!! On Wednesday March 24th, we received a call from a guest at the Marriott asking if we could help her make arrangements to take a cat (Blackie) they found at the hotel back to the US. We came to the hotel and met Blackie and her new family and dropped off the carrier and supplies. Blackie went to the vet and got a clean bill of health. We have the hardest problems adopting black cats on the island due to the superstitions people have about them. So this rescue was special for us. Blackie flew back to the US on March 27th. Blackie then was given to Lisa’s parents and reports the following:
My folks took “Blackie” and renamed her Bella. They LOVE her; she is sooooooooo affectionate and perfect for them. I’ll send some more photos soon. She is getting to know their Black Lab who is very docile (12 years old) and just wants to get to know her. She’s taking her time. Bella sleeps on my mom’s bed every night and she has a new reason to get up every morning – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Doug’s ride home

Just got the cutest email about Doug’s journey home:

Dear Liz and Mick,
We are so sorry that we did not respond sooner! Doug/Roo’s journey was wonderful. We had no problems at the airport, and he was a litterbox pro. Our flight arrived at 6:50 (About 30 minutes early) and we drove home from NYC shortly after. We finally arrived home at about 11:30 pm. We made him an area in our bathtub with a cat bed, some fuzzy blankets, a litter box, an eating area, and his carrier. He still loves to snuggle (and wrestle) with his “lamb” which we call Lambie. When Jordan and James went to visit him after we put him to bed, he had fallen asleep with his nose nestled in Lambie. When we woke up, we gave him some food. James began creating a jungle gym out of cardboard boxes and Roo loves to climb up it. We also gave him a soft, sponge ball that he loves to pounce on. He has met one of our cats, who at first seemed hesitant but is now becoming friendlier. Our other cat is a bit more fretful so they have not encountered each other yet. Our dog gave Roo a sniff and a lick which was very cute. Right now he is sleeping in the sleeve of Jordan’s snuggie, which has made a hammock-like bed. He has used the litter box every time we put him in, he’s so good about it! In other words, all is well. Pictures are on the way (once he wakes up!).
With much appreciation for our sweet new buddy,
Jordan, James, Sharon, and Jim.

A home for Doug

Hip Hip Hooray! On Wednesday we received a call from a guest at the Marriott asking if we could help her make arrangements to take a cat (Blackie) they found at the hotel back to the US. We came to the hotel and met Blackie and her new family and dropped off the carrier and supplies. Blackie went to the vet and got a clean bill of health. We invited them to our house to see our ‘zoo’ and they brought along James (12 years old), also guest at the Marriott, who they told about our rescue work.

James saw Doug and immediately fell in love him but he was told he would have to go back and ask his parents if it would be okay.

Later that evening James came back with his parents and sisters to meet our Chug-a-lug Doug. Everyone loved him and though Dad seemed apprehensive, after 5 seconds of Doug nuzzling his beard, Dad said it was okay.

We got Doug his health certificate on Friday and Saturday morning we dropped him off for his new adventure. His new home will be in New York state not far from the Massachusetts border. Besides his new humans he’ll have 2 older cats and a big Labrador to keep him company.
