The biggest need right now is for sterilization of cats to bring down the overpopulation problem.
We are in the process of setting up a program where you can donate for the specific purpose
of spay/neuter. We have examined many different programs that have existed and have decided
on a way we think is best use of the funds. We will allow the vet to choose a cat owner who
has a good history of taking care of their animal but just might not understand or have the funds
to spay/neuter their cat. The vet will be in the position to provide the education needed to
and to follow up that the procedure is done. That way if someone does get their cat sterilized and understands why, they can start ‘passing the word’ to others about how this is the right thing to do.
I can not tell you how many requests I get from people who have had kittens and then realize that
they should get their animals sterilized. There are cultural differences between people on the island
and in Aruba and the vets are the best people to educate people in a way that they will understand.
Vet costs are not as high as in the US and we can combine donations for the procedure. We are requesting from the vets information about who they choose and some information which we would be happy to pass along to you.
So if you’re interested in being a sponsor, drop us a line and we’ll get you all set up.
