Mission Control – We Have a Go

This week end Mo and Mojo’s new family came to visit. The adopting family was going to suprise their 7 year old son, Max, about the kittens but they had a hard time getting him to come visit without spilling the beans.

Once they arrived it was great fun. Max met his new kittens as well as every other cat in the house. He was especially entralled with our Maine Coon, Missy. He would play with the kittens and the young adults then ask if he could go see the “BIG ONE” again.

The next day I took Mo and Mojo to the veterinarian for their check-up and to get their travel health certificates and they passed with flying colors. Their sister, McLovin, will miss them but she has already adopted Max (the kitten) as her little brother

It’s been a busy week. We had visitors who are going to adopt Mo and Mojo, but more on that in aother post.

Max now has his eyes open and is walking – a bit wobbly – but walking. He is also being introduced to his older housemates. The adults are curious but not too concerned. Thier attitudes are, “He’s too small to play with so I’m out of here.” The 3 adolecents, Mo, Mojo and McLovin think that he’s okay and take turns very gently rough housing with him. It is amazing how each cat reacts accordingly.

Max’s markings are beautiful and we predict he is going to be one handsome cat when he reaches adulthood. Unfortunately at this young age fur length and eye color cannot be established.

Pandora is about 4 ½ years old and was rescued from the Holiday Inn as a young adult. She was with us for close to 4 years and and was one of our residents. But we need to make room for more kittens and she was one of our adults that we felt would be a good candidate for adoption. We are going to miss her dearly but we know she is in good hands.

Her new family was looking for a cat for for their young daughter who had fallen in love with her grandmother’s Siamese and wanted a cat of her own. They wanted a female and since all the babies that are up for adoption are males they were limited to our 2 available females, Pandora or Dje Dje, both full grown adults.

After much petting, feeding of cat treats and careful evaluation, Pandy came out the winner. We received an email this morning letting us know that Pandy is now Mitsy and she is adjusting well to her new home.

Late Sunday night we received a phone call from the guard at the gate house at Tierra Del Sol. One of the groundskeepers was told by a guest that they had found a baby kitten.

We drove up to the gate house and there he was, in a box with tissues and ice cold. We got him back to the house as soon as possible and started to warm him up. He was in pretty good shape after he warmed up and proceeded to have a good meal before bedtime.

We estimate him to be a bit over a week old as his eyes are just starting to open. We also suspect that the mother may have been in the process of moving her litter and the people found the first one to be moved or the last one that was still in the original nest. Not taking that into consideration they assumed it was abandoned and took it to the the grounds keepers.

Had a trying day yesterday – When we got the kittens they had the runs but then we started feeding
them and thought they had the runs because their system was getting used to food. We had
to do an emergency trip to the vet – they have either a parasite or a bacterial infection. We looked on the web and it is very common esp. since they were in a yard for how long.
They can get it from the dirt. The white one was in extreme distress. So we got some medicine
for them and had to feed the white one a kitten version of pedialite every 15 minutes. The kitten
LOVED to be held all day but we were exhausted! The other two are doing well – eating soft
food like crazy!! They love to walk through the food, lie in it and get it all over themselves!
Needless to say – we are having to give the kittens a bath and then massive washcloth baths a day!

We just got these kittens on April Fools day. They are still drinking out of the bottle but they are getting their teeth and are starting to eat soft food. These kittens were found in a garden and they believe they found the mother dead. We are suspecting that she was attacked by some dog. The vet estimates that they are about 4 weeks old so they will be available after the 2nd week of April. The white kitten is “McLovin” and the two boys (who are identical) are Moe in honor of a pet who has recently passed away and MoJoe because it just fits him. Individual pictures can be found in the adoption section.

We were all saddened by this but a least feel that we gave the little guys the best shot we could. The vets office was very good to us – we brought the last little one in and they took us right away and showed us how to hydrate the kitten. So at least we have the stuff ready in case we get more kittens in the future.
